What is DKIM and what does it do?

DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) is an email authentication method. When DKIM is enabled it adds a digital signature to every email that is sent. This signature is invisible to the sender and recipient but can be identified by mail servers. The mail servers can check for the digital signature to verify that the email address is indeed connected to the domain that it claims it is and that it is allowed to send emails from that domain
